A unique place where you can get in touch with the traditions and customs of the Mari people is the village of Shorunzha, located in the Morkinsky district of the Republic of Mari El. Located near the river Shora, this settlement is one of the most ancient, because according to the legends of the old-timers, the history of the village dates back to the end of the XVIII century. Despite the fact that today there are just over 50 courtyards, many tourists come here every year to get to know the legends, taste national dishes and take part in various celebrations.
There are several good springs in the area, and the name of the village, apparently, came from them, since in translation from the local dialect the word "shor" means "spring", and "shorge" means "murmur". Today, the settlement has its own school and kindergarten, so the place is actively developing. The convenient location near the forest makes it possible to freely erect wooden log cabins, which are distinguished by their beauty and the presence of various interesting ornaments.
Hospitable residents will be happy to conduct a tour of the village and show local attractions, take mushrooms and berries to the forest, treat local national dishes, show dancing and sing. Of particular interest are the national costumes, which slightly resemble Russian embroidery, which confirms the close connection between the two peoples.
