Walking along the ancient streets of Kozmodemyansk, you will certainly notice a blue wooden house with a mezzanine richly decorated with slash carvings. This is a Museum of merchant life. Antique furniture, musical instruments, household utensils will tell about the life and everyday life of Kozmodemyansk merchants.

The museum is located in an old merchant's mansion with a basement, mezzanines and a mezzanine. The house was built in 1897 and belonged to Alexander Ivanovich Shishokin, a timber merchant.

The

museum's collections were mainly formed from authentic items, many of which were donated to the museum by residents of Kozmodemyansk. Household items from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were collected in the former merchant's house: furniture, dishes, kitchen utensils, clothes and shoes, documents, books and money. The color scheme of the facade of the building was based on the traditions of folk architecture of the late 19th century - rich color, contrasting combination of walls and architraves helps to create a festive impression and is historically authentic.

The

house museum preserves the spirit of the past. And it is very different from the traditional idea of museums! Here you can do everything - sit on bent bird cherry chairs, look behind the glass door of the cabinet, pull out the heavy drawers of the chest of drawers or just look into the charming floor mirror, richly decorated with relief carvings. The highlight of the museum is the preserved tricolor oak parquet, the patterns of which are not repeated in different halls.
