This is a men's monastery, which is the successor of the original female monastic monastery, the Tsarevokokshaysk almshouse, built in 1886. All the buildings of this monastery – temples, residential and utility rooms – were built in the traditions of Russian wooden architecture. The monastery has a nursery where plants rare in the Mari region are grown.
Themain shrine of the monastery is the surviving icon of the Apparition of the Most Holy Theotokos. St. Sergius of Radonezh. Here you can see the miraculous images of the Vladimir Mother of God, the Beheading of John the Baptist, as well as the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which was painted in 1905 on Mount Athos. Pilgrims come from everywhere to the desert to see the relics of St. Nectarius of Aegina, a fragment of the relics of St. Sergius. There are more than 100 relics collected from many holy places not only in Russia, but also around the world.
