"Yoshkin the Cat" is one of the most popular sculptural compositions of the city of Yoshkar-Ola. The colorful cat sitting on a bench was invented by local sculptors.Yandubaev and A.Shirnin, and the students initiated a new tradition - rubbing the cat's nose for good luck.
Thefigure of Yoshkin the cat was installed on June 27, 2011 at the main building of the Mari State University. The cat sat impressively on a bench, next to him - an improvised newspaper "Naked Truth". The etymology of naming the cat goes back to the euphemism "Yoshkin's cat", where the letter "E" is replaced by "Yo", which is consonant with the name of the city of Yoshkar-Ola (in the youth speech of Yoshka).
