In May 2016, a unique tourist attraction dedicated to a unique natural material appeared in the Republic of Mari El — the Museum of Stained Oak. Currently, the museum's exposition is the only one in Russia. The Blackened Oak House is an artistic and informational project reflecting a modern view of the rare fossil material.
The museum's activities are aimed at reviving the forgotten industry of extraction, processing and use of stained oak by modern man.
The House of the Stained Oak has a permanent exhibition "Treasure of the River", divided into several halls, which have their own thematic names. In the hall "The Revival of a forgotten craft", visitors get acquainted with the ancient craft of extracting and processing natural materials and the history of its revival in Russia, in particular, the city of Kozmodemyansk.
The
installations "Forgotten Fishery", "Tree", "Book of Desires" and the diptych "Four Elements" are also presented here, introducing the attributes and the process of extraction of stained oak and allowing you to feel the powerful natural energy of the fossil material.
In the second exhibition hall, Oak Leaf Gallery, the main exhibition object is the Oak Leaf sculpture, an iconic symbol of the gallery.
The
museum also has its own production workshop, which implements the most complex and significant work on the extraction, processing of stained oak, as well as the manufacture of products from this unique natural material.
The
cultural object, reflecting the great mysteries of nature and the ingenious discoveries of man, has already gained wide popularity among tourists from Russia and foreign countries.
