Ballet Festival in honor of Galina Ulanova
This spring, Yoshkar-Ola will once again become a place where ballet breathes deeply, sounds with every movement and comes to life in the viewer's heart. The stage of the Mari State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after E. Sapaev will once again bring together world ballet stars and the most promising young artists on its stage as part of the Galina Ulanova Ballet Art Festival, which will be held in April 2026.
  • Destination
Republic of Mari El, Yoshkar-Ola, Komsomolskaya St., 130

The festival was founded in 2002 by Konstantin Ivanov, the artistic director of the theater and a student of Galina Ulanova. Over the years, the festival has become a landmark event in the cultural life of Yoshkar-Ola and the entire Volga region. The name of the great Russian ballerina inspires not only beautiful performances, but also deep professional searches, pedagogical continuity and artistic honesty.

The program of the upcoming festival traditionally promises to be rich and eventful. Masterpieces of world classics in new interpretations with new faces. The leading soloists of the country's theaters will show their skills.

The festival is not just about the stage

As in previous years, the festival will host the Ulanov Readings, educational meetings where ballet scholars, choreographers, teachers, and artists will share their experiences and talk about the importance of the Russian classical school. This is an important part of the festival, allowing us to preserve and pass on the unique ballet heritage to the younger generation.

Why should I go?

The festival will take place in April 2026 on the stage Mari State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after E. Sapaev. The poster will be published closer to the opening date. Traditionally, it is better to purchase tickets in advance – the festival evenings are sold out.

The Ulanovsky Festival is a ballet like a revelation. A ballet that speaks without words, but hits the heart exactly. The ballet, which becomes the main spring performance of Yoshkar-Ola every year.
