The Peoples' Friendship House of the Republic of Mari El opened on May 17, 2023 and immediately became one of the notable cultural venues of the city. This is not just an exhibition center, but a space where traditions, languages and cultures of the peoples of the region meet. Large-scale events are held here that bring together residents and guests of the capital of Mari El.
The history of the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Mari El began as part of the development of the museum infrastructure of the region. The institution is a structural unit of the Republican Museum of Fine Arts and was established as a center for interethnic interaction.
The opening became an important event for the cultural life of the republic. The project is intended as a platform for dialogue between the peoples living in Mari El and other regions of Russia. Exhibitions dedicated to the traditions and history of different ethnic groups, thematic festivals, forums and educational programs are held here.
Among the significant projects is the Bolshaya Volga XIII. Cultural code of the Volga region", "Visiting the Tatars", "Peoples of Russia. A big family is a common story", "My native country is wide". These events form the modern image of the institution as a center of cultural cooperation.
The building is located in the very center of the city, opposite the Government of the Republic of Mari El. The architectural appearance is made in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The facade with arches and columns refers to Venetian palazzi, and the light stone gives the building expressiveness.
