Protected landscapes with a unique world of animals and plants are preserved by humans in their original form. Today, the Bolshaya Kokshaga Nature Reserve can rightfully be called the pearl of the Mari Region.
The Starozhilsk
Visitor Center, which is located in the village of the same name, 40 km from
Yoshkar-Ola, plays an important role in environmental education. The visiting center's guests include scientists and students, schoolchildren and volunteers. This is a zone of "green" tourism, where educational sightseeing routes originate.
The
route lengthis 138 km.
The
way visitors travel along the route is by off–road vehicle (UAZ), bicycle, canoe, or on foot.
Please note that the route is seasonal – August-September.
The
maximum permissible loadson the hiking trail are 6 groups per month, 5-6 people per group.
Accommodation conditions:overnight at the Shimaevo cordon - wooden house with stove heating, water from a well, sleeping places – 2–tiered shelves (3 beds per tier), electricity - solar panels. Cooking is done by the guests themselves on a gas stove or campfire (dishes are available).
On the route you will need:field clothing for the weather with a reserve, insect repellents (ticks, mosquitoes), individual medicines, food, disposable tableware (optional), batteries for charging gadgets, rubber boots, raincoat (in case of rain), good mood.
Requirements for the mode of stay on the route:
- movement along the trail should take place quietly under the guidance of a guide, so as not to cause concern to animals;
- the organization of parking is allowed only in specially equipped places;
- comply with fire safety regulations;
- it is forbidden to pluck any terrestrial and aquatic plants;
- no souvenirs of nature can be taken out of the route: beautiful stones, interesting driftwood, etc., only knowledge, impressions and photographs can be "taken out" from the trail;
- you can't leave any garbage behind;
- any hunting and fishing is prohibited in the reserve.
