Orsha municipal district

Orsha district is located on the northern outskirts of the Republic of Mari El, 33 km north of Yoshkar-Ola.

The

total area of the district is 896.49 square kilometers, the length from west to east is 45 km, from north to south is 25 km. The Vyatka federal highway runs through the territory of the district. Half of the district's territory is occupied by forests, interspersed with floodplain meadows and rolling fields, creating a beautiful landscape for a variety of recreation. There are about 40 rivers and rivulets in the region, countless springs and the deepest lake in the Volga region, Lake Zryv. There are 4 museums, 2 recreation centers, a craft house, 8 historical and cultural monuments (of regional significance), and 16 landscape monuments (sacred groves) in the Orsha district.

Major events are held annually in the district:

The interregional festival-competition of vocal and instrumental ensembles "Eҥer vӱдmbalne" is held every 2 years in the homeland of the Mari playwright Arsi Volkov and his brother composer Evgeny Volkov, in the village of Staroe Khreshchenoe in mid-July. The stage for performances is placed directly above the surface of the water. Throughout the event, there is an exhibition and sale of folk crafts, master classes on national embroidery are held.

The

interregional festival-competition "Yesenin Evenings" is held annually in late September and early October in Orshanka. Russian Russian poetry and fiction lovers compete in three categories: Yesenin's poetry, Russian classics (both poetry and prose), and modern Russian poetry.

Folk festival "Shirokaya Maslenitsa". The program always includes Shrovetide entertainment, an interesting performance, traditional competitions, all kinds of tasks, friendly curling dances and, of course, farewell to Shrovetide! It is held on the last day of the Carnival week in Orshanka village according to Russian traditions, and in Velikopolye village they say goodbye to winter according to Mari traditions.

On

National Hero's Day (April 26), a solemn event is held at the historical site "Mamich Berdey" near the village of Mari-Ernur with tasting of national dishes, performances by creative teams and ritual rituals of the Mari people (tying ribbons on a sacred tree).
