****History of the creation of the park********
****
Mari Chodra National Park was founded on September 13, 1985. It is located on the southern spurs of the Mari-Vyatsky ridge, in the basin of the Ilet River, which crosses the park from northeast to southwest and flows into the Volga.****

The history of Mari Chodra Park begins long before 1985. At the end of the 19th century, when the Mari region was part of the Kazan province, the Lushmar forestry existed here. The documentary history of the forestry can be traced back to 1888, when the Nuzhyal and Sotnur parts were formed from the previously existing 3rd Tsarevokokshay forestry.****
****
Lushmar forestry was engaged in forestry work: clearing dead wood and dead wood, cutting linden trees for bast, clearing burnt forest, allocating cutting areas and plots. One of the most important tasks was the establishment of nurseries, the seeds for which were collected manually by forest guards.****
****
After the October Revolution of 1917, the Lushmari forestry continued its activities, becoming the Mushmari forestry enterprise in 1927. The main task of the timber industry enterprise was the harvesting and removal of timber, which led to a significant reduction in forest areas, especially coniferous species.****
****
Since 1963, the Mushmarinsky forestry enterprise has become a mechanized forestry enterprise. In 1966, a permanent tree nursery was founded, which became one of the best in Russia. In 1978, the Mushmarinsky forestry enterprise was divided into the Kuzhersky forestry enterprise and the Mushmarinsky mechanical forestry enterprise.****

Mari Chodra National Park has come a long way from a forestry to a modern environmental institution. Today the park continues to develop, preserving and enhancing the natural heritage of Mari El.
